Reader's Digest Feburary 2024

How can I tell if pizza has gone bad?

Pay attention to signs of spoilage such as an off smell, visible mold, or a slimy texture on the crust or toppings. If the pizza looks or smells questionable, it's best to discard it to avoid foodborne illness.

Can I reheat pizza safely?

Yes, you can safely reheat pizza, but it's important to do it properly. Use an oven, toaster oven, or skillet to reheat pizza thoroughly until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) to kill any harmful bacteria. Avoid using the microwave as it may result in soggy crust.

How should I store leftover pizza to maintain its freshness?

To keep leftover pizza safe and delicious, store it in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in aluminum foil before refrigerating. Make sure to place it on a shelf, not in the door, where the temperature is more consistent. Consume leftover pizza within 3-4 days for the best quality.

What precautions should I take when handling and preparing pizza toppings?

When handling pizza toppings, particularly raw meats and vegetables, ensure they are fresh and properly washed. Use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw meats and vegetables to prevent cross-contamination. Cook any raw meats to the recommended safe internal temperature before adding them to the pizza to ensure it's safe to eat.

This product is awesome, I have a wood fired pizza oven and it’s always a pain to get the pizza from making it to the in the oven with out it going everywhere or burning my hands in the oven. It’s pretty easy to use, I made 40 pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday and none of them turned to calzones because I couldn’t get it off the pizza peel!

Makes my life so much easier when preparing dinner for the kiddos, honestly!

I have not been cooking handmade pizzas at home for very long, so landing a pizza off of a traditional peel has been tricky at times depending on the weight of the toppings or size of the pie. I have used a metal and a wooden peel and without semolina under the dough, it takes practice. This design looked unique and fun to try.
It works. You get the edge of your pizza on the peel, you pull back on the handle as you push the peel under the pizza and it's on. Reverse the process to land it in your oven and heavy toppings are no longer a major concern.
